Friday Night Fights Quick Picks

Chris Avalos vs. Drian Francisco: This weeks main event on Friday Night Fights may not feature any big names or very well known fighters but that doesn't mean you shouldn't tune in.  Unless you don't like watching to power punchers go to war.  It will be a 10 round junior featherweight fight that features veteran Philippine fighter Drian Francisco (24-1-1, 19 KO) taking on California native Chris Avalos (21-2, 16 KO).  Francisco is seven years older than Avalos but nearly all of his fights have taken place in the Philippines and it remains to be seen whether he is simply fighting bums or his hands are truly that heavy and his punches that lethal.  Avalos is also a big puncher who has yet to be tested.  That is what makes this fight so exciting the fact that both fighters seem to posses very heavy hands and punching power but both are very raw and anything could happen.  Avalos seems to be the better overall fighter and will need to have a good mix of defense and offense if he wants to win.  Francisco throws punches from very awkward angles so even if Avalos shows good defense he still may get caught.  Francisco will look to end the night early with one big punch while Avalos will look to wear Francisco down over 10 rounds and stop him late.  This fight has a chance to be very, very exciting and fans will learn a lot about both fighters.  I predict the fireworks will be booming as fans get a fun night of watching these two sluggers go at it with Avalos getting the better of Francisco via 9th round knockout.

Glen Tapia vs. Abraham Han: The other big fight of the night will be a 10 round junior middleweight fight between two undefeated fighters who are both making their 10 round debuts.  That fight features New Jersey native Glen Tapia (18-0, 10 KO) taking on Texas native Abraham Han (19-0, 12 KO).  Tapia is built like a brick and seems very calm in the ring.  He never does too much and always stays within himself working behind a stiff jab.  Han is a good puncher who is very raw and has even fought in other disciplines competing in the World Combat League where he fought more of a kickboxing style.  This will be by far the biggest stage Han has ever appeared on so he nerves could play a role in the outcome.  Han can't come out overly aggressive because Tapia is so disciplined that he could pick Han apart easily.  This should be another good fight that the more polished Tapia should win via unanimous decision.
