Friday Night Fights Quick Picks

Allan Green vs. Eleider Alvarez: The main even of this weeks Friday Night Fights card will showcase veteran light heavyweight fighter Allan Green (32-4, 22 KO) in a bout against up and coming Colombian prospect Eleider Alonzo (12-0, 8 KO).  It was supposed to be a 10 round affair at a catch weight of 180 pounds but Green came in weighing a ridiculous 186 pounds, fortunately for him and the fight fans the bout will go on with Green agreeing to pay Alzono 20% of his purse.  For His part Alvarez came in weighing 178 pounds.  Green is a 33 year old veteran of the sport who has fought Mikkel Kessler, Andre Ward, and Glen Johnson.  However whenever he steps up to fight those guys he always loses.  At this point in his career he is more of a stepping stone than true contender.  Green should be a tough test for the untested Alvarez who at 29 years old has only had 12 professional fights.  Alvarez is the more athletic of the two fighters, but both men have a plodding come forward style and aren't exactly slick.  Green will need to use his ring intelligence to outbox Alvarez but the younger more athletic Alvarez should be too much for Green to handle at this point in his career.  I expect Alvarez to stay perfect by knocking Green out in the 8th round.

Billy Dib vs. Mike Oliver: The other notable fight tonight will be a comeback fight for Billy Dib (35-2, 21 KO) after his title loss to Evgeny Gradovich on Friday Night Fights.  This time around Dib will be taking on Mike Oliver (25-3, 8 KO) in a scheduled 10 round featherweight bout.  Without a doubt Dib is the better of the two fighters he has held a featherweight title belt and usually comes to fight.  However in his last fight against Gradovich he failed to impress and he will need to look impressive this time out if he wants to once again fight for a championship.  Oliver is an athletic defense first fighter he doesn't always make crowd pleasing fights, something Dib has also been accused of in the past.  Oliver seems reluctant at times to throw punches instead coming forward behind a tight guard and good head movement.  This fight could have good spurts of action but it could also end of putting everyone to sleep.  Hopefully for the sake of the fans, both of these men will put it all on the line and come to win.  I expect Dib to look more impressive than he did the last time he stepped into the ring and I predict he will get a unanimous decision victory.
