NBC Sports Network Quick Picks

Bryant Jennings vs. Andrey Fedosov: This Friday there will also be a showcase of up and coming heavyweights in a 10 round fight from Bethlehem, Pennslvanyia.  That fight features young American hopeful Bryant Jennings (16-0, 8 KO) taking on tough Russian Andrey Fedosov (24-2, 19 KO).  Neither one of these men has been tested thus far but both have a solid skill set and could make waves in the heavyweight division.  Jennings who has been featured on NBC Sports a number of times has long been talked about as the next big American prospect but has yet to fight any top level opponents.  While Fedosov doesn't represent a big step forward in competition he is a solid fighter that is no easy out.  If Jennings wants to fulfill his potential and rise in the heavyweight rankings he needs to look impressive against Fedesov and put his career on the fast track.  But as big time boxing fans have seen recently, a Russian fighter is never an easy out.  While Jennings is the bigger, more athletic man, it is Fedesov who possesses the greater power.  But just like Jennings, Fedesov has not yet tested himself against top flight talent.  This fight is important for the career of both men, whoever loses  might not get a televised fight for awhile.  The winner however should be in line for a bigger name fight to continue to propel their career.  Fedesov is tougher and stronger but Jennings is to long and quick for the Russian to knockout.  I expect Jennings to look good and get a big win via unanimous decision.

Sergey Kovalev vs. Cornelius White: The other fight on NBC Sports fight that will lead into the main event will be an exciting light heavyweight 12 round title elimination fight.  Fans should recognize Sergey Kovalev (20-0-1, 18 KO) from his last fight against Gabriel Campillo who he stopped in the 3rd round on NBC Sports in January.  In his last  four fights Kovalev has looked like the real deal.  He has scored four knockouts and only one of those fights has gone past 3 rounds.  His fight against Cornelius White (21-1, 16 KO) could be more of the same.  White is a power puncher who has only fought one real talented opponent in Don George and that fight didn't go very well for White, he was stopped in the 1st round.  Another knock on White is that he has only been involved in one 12 round fight and has been in a lot of 6 round fights as of late.  This fight looks more like a showcase for the talent of Kovalev instead of a competitive fight.  Kovalev should continue his impressive streak of stoppages by knocking White out in the 4th round.
