Friday Night Fights Quick Pick

Juan Carlos Payano vs. Jundy Maraon: This Friday in West Orange, New Jersey there will be a battle of contrasting styles.  It will be a 10 round bantamweight fight that could be a showcase for either fighter.  The man with more name recognition would be Dominican Juan Carlos Payano (13-0, 7 KO) due to his extensive and very succesful amateur career.  But his opponent is heavy handed and dangerous, he is Philippine prospect Jundy Maraon (15-0-1, 12 KO).  While both men posses above average power in both hands it is Maraon who is the bigger puncher, but Payano will have an immense speed advantage.  Payano has some of the fastest hands in the sport which he will need against Maraon who not only has big time power but is also a good counter puncher.  Maraon is a good fighter who certainly seems to have a solid future in the sport, but Payano looks more like the can't miss prospect at this point.  Payano goes by the nickname "Baby Pacquiao" which was given to him by his grandfather, a nickname that comes with a lot of expectations.  You can't compare yourself to an all-time great unless you have the tools to back it up.  I expect Maraon to look impressive and land some massive power punches, but Payano is going to be too fast for  him to take down.  Payano will use his outstanding hand speed to wear Maraon down and get a 9th round stoppage.
