Showtime Quick Picks

Danny Garcia vs. Zab Judah: The big question for this fight is which Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO) will show up.  Will it be the Judah fans saw get dominated by Amir Khan in 5 rounds and basically quit?  Or will it be the Judah fans saw easily outpoint and then stop top prospect Vernon Paris in 9 rounds?  Whichever Judah shows up, fans do know which Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO) will enter the ring.  It is the Garcia with one of the most devastating left hooks in the business, whose last two fights ended in fantastic knockout fashion, both in round 4 against Khan, and Eric Morales.  At his advanced age Judah still has dangerous speed and great footwork, but Garcia is in his prime and is a vicious puncher.  This should be a solid fight all around but Garcia will get the knockout victory in the 9th round.

Amir Khan vs. Julio Diaz: In another Showtime fight this Saturday, which is on tape delay will showcase a man who at this point might be damaged goods.  That man is Amir Khan (27-3, 19 KO) and he has lost two of this last three fights, both losses coming by the way of knockout.  By this point every boxing fan is painfully aware of Khan's glass jaw, a jaw that has stunted the career of a once rising star.  Khan will be fighting the Mexican journeyman Julio Diaz (40-7-1, 29 KO).  In the past Diaz has fought some top level talent, but he has lost all of those fights.  Also in Diaz's seven losses five have been by knockout, so he also doesn't have a good chin.  This fight may be a battle of who can land a perfect shot on the other man's chin first, because neither fighter can take a punch.  However Khan is the more skilled boxer and should be able to handle Diaz, so long as his defense stays sharp.  Look for Khan to score the knockout victory in the 7th round.

Peter Quillin vs. Fernando Guerrero: The least publicized fight of Saturday night on Showtime could prove to be the most exciting.  It showcases two tough fighters, one of whom has become very accustomed to fighting to Brooklyn, Peter Quillin (28-0, 20 KO).  His last fight was an all out brawl against Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam which Quillin won via unanimous decision.  This fight could be just as good as Quillin takes on Fernando Guerrero (25-1, 19 KO).  Guerrero is a tough knockout puncher but he hasn't yet faced anyone at the level of Quillin.  Both men will be throwing hard and often looking to score the big crowd pleasing knockout.  As Max Kellerman loves to say "class shows over time" and that is what will happen in this fight.  The talent of Quillin will rise above that of Guerrero and Quillin will win via 10th round stoppage.
