Showtime Quick Pick

Canelo Alvarez vs. Austin Trout: This Saturday night isn't just a "holiday" for many people, it is also a great night of boxing.  That is because the highly anticipated match-up between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KO) and Austin "No Doubt" Trout (26-0, 14 KO), two undefeated fighters is set to go off.  If Alvarez were to win it would surely be the biggest win of his career, beating a top level opponent in his prime.  However Trout already has his career defining victory over Miguel Cotto via unanimous decision, and the scores weren't even close.  Alvarez isn't the fastest or slickest boxer but he has heavy hands and top level skills and works the body well.  Trout is a southpaw which is always tricky and he is quick and smart inside the ring.  Even though both men are undefeated, they are also both very unproven.  Trout's only big win was against Cotto, and Alvarez has never really fought a guy in his prime.  Alvarez has instead fought washed up Shane Mosley and Kermit Cintron, or fighting much, much smaller Josesito Lopez, clearly Golden Boy is bringing him along carefully as the next superstar.  Since Alvarez and Cotto are so similar it is easy to pick Trout to get the win, however Alvarez's camp can study that tape and devise a solid game plan.  Also if its a close fight look for Alvarez to benefit since the fight is in Texas and he is the bigger name and everyone in the building should be rooting for their Mexican hero.  Alvarez should rise to the occasion and score his biggest victory via unanimous decision in a very close hard fought bout.
