Friday Night Fights Quick Pick

Rico Ramos vs. Oscar Gonzalez: This weeks edition of FNF will not showcase any well known talent, although Rico Ramos was a former title holder.  But as big time boxing fans know, a lot of these "titles" mean absolutely nothing.  Ramos is however ranked by ESPN as the #5 junior featherweight in the world.  Ramos (21-2, 11 KO's) will be taking on the much older Oscar Gonzalez (20-2, 14 KO's) who is fighting for only the second time outside of Mexico.  Gonzalez is 35 years old but has only been fighting since 2007, so even though he is the elder man in the ring, it doesn't mean he is more experienced.  As far as ring experience goes, Ramos may have more of it.  That is because Ramos has fought one of the most skilled boxers on the planet in Guillermo Rigondeaux, and although Ramos was knocked out in the 6th round, going 6 rounds against that type of talent teaches you something.  Usually when to fighters who don't have the highest of skill levels get into the ring, it's a phone booth battle.  But neither of these fighters are strong punchers.  It should be a close fight with lots of back and forth and Ramos should win by unanimous decision.
