BREAKING NEWS

HBO has long been the premiere boxing channel, but the times may be changing.  The network announced today that it will no longer do business with Golden Boy Promotions, and instead will only put on fights with Top Rank, and other promotional companies such as DiBella Entertainment.  There has been a long running fued between Golden Boy and Top Rank and for years they have deprived the fans of great fights because they are unwilling to do business together.  But now it seems the TV networks are also choosing sides, HBO banking on Top Rank and others and Showtime going all in with Golden Boy.  HBO took a big hit when Floyd Mayweather left for Showtime, but the future seemed bright because they still had the next big superstar in Adrien Broner.  But Broner is with Golden Boy which means he will also be making the move to rival Showtime.  HBO will now focus on fighters such as Andre Ward, Timothy Bradley, and Nonito Donaire, all of whom are ultra talented, but don't yet carry a large fanbase.  Also, outside of Brandon Rios and Mike Alvarado, Top Rank does not have many fighters who make fast paced, action fights.  While Golden Boy has some of the best action fighters in the sport.  They inlcude Leo Santa Cruz, Alfredo Angulo, Lucas Matthysse, and Marcos Maidana.  HBO may have left the door open for more fighters since they will be working with many promotional companies, but Showtime seems to have the better staple of young, exciting fighters.  Hopefully for the fans of the sport the promotional companies and TV networks end their ludicrous fued sooner rather than later.
