Floyd Mayweather is causing a major boxing uproar. Mayweather tweeted late Tuesday night that "the negotiations for my fight are almost done. The front runner is IBF Champion Devon Alexander. It'd be a unification bout at welterweight." However, this fight would most likely not be a title unification. That is because Alexander pulled out of a mandatory fight against Kell Brook due to injury. So if he chooses to fight Mayweather he would most likely be stripped of his current welterweight title. This comes as a huge shock to most boxing fans who expected Mayweather to fight Robert Guerrero. If not Guerrero, there was a slim chance he would meet Canelo Alvarez. Both fights would be exciting and make sense since the fight will be on May 4th, cinco de mayo weekend. Guerrero is Mexican-American, and Alvarez is Mexican. Many boxing writers are skeptical that the Mayweather-Alexander fight happens. Most prominently head ESPN boxing writer Dan Rafael who has been calling "bullshit" on Mayweather. Big time boxing fans will need to have a wait and see attitude on this one.
