BREAKING NEWS

It is finally official, Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be fighting on May 4th.  His opponent for this fight will be long rumored front-runner Robert Guerrero.  This should be a very competitive fight, smiliar to Mayweather's last fight which came against Miguel Cotto.  On the undercard Canelo Alvarez is still expected to fight Austin Trout.  This may not be the biggest news of the day though.  Mayweather also announced that this PPV fight will be with Showtime, not HBO, the network he has fought on for nearly his entire career.  And it will not just be a one time event, like when Manny Pacquiao moved from HBO to Showtime to fight Shane Mosley, then continued to fight on HBO.  Mayweather has signed a six fight 30 month contract with Showtime.  This will also obviously mark the end of Mayweather appearing on HBO's 24/7 series leading up to his fights.  It could also be the downfall of the 24/7 series all together.  Without Mayweather that series would not even exist, and with Pacquiao's future up in the air, HBO might scrap the program, at least until Adrien Broner is a legit PPV draw.  Mayweather has said he intends to fight all six fights he is contracted for, however he usually only fights one or two times every 12 months, so it is doubtful he will put on the gloves six times over a 30 month period.  HBO is certainly reeling after losing the biggest PPV draw in the sport.
