Lackluster?

Gennady Golovkin's fight against Gabriel Rosado was almost exactly what fans expected.  Fans figured they would see Golovkin land massive punches and a tough as nails Rosado withstand those punches.  That would be until Golovkin landed one too perfect for Rosado to remain standing.

That punch never came.  Golovkin; who owns the highest knockout percentage rate in middleweight history could not drop Rosado.  He hurt him badly with an uppercut and stunned him on a few other occasion, but the tough Philidelphia based fighter refused to go down.  But just because Golovkin couldn't drop his opponent doesn't mean he didn't inflict an enormous amount of punishment.

Rosado had a bad cut over his left eye that refused to stop bleeding.  He was also bleeding from the nose and mouth.  His face was so bloody it started to resemble Iggy Pop's chest and stomach during a concert.  His cutman did one of the worst jobs in recent memory.  He simply could not stop any of the bleeding.  If Rosado had a real cutman in his corner he may have been able to last much longer.  But the bleeding refused to stop.  To start the fight Golovkin was wearing white gloves, but by the end of it they were bright red.

In the seventh round Rosado's trainer Billy Briscoe probably saved his life.  He was even heard telling Rosado's father Timo, who was also working his corner "Timo, I gotta stop it, I gotta stop the fight man.  Your sons gonna die!"  Briscoe did a great job of protecting a fighter from himself.  Rosado would have never quit and was still fighting through the blood to throw and land punches, even causing some swelling to Golovkin's face.  Rosado who moved up from junior middleweight to take this fight can now pull up a chair to the grown up table because he is a man.

As dominant as Golovkin was his performance did seem somewhat lackluster.  When the man who owns the highest knockout rate in middleweight history can't even drop a guy who moved up from junior middleweight it has to be noted.  Before this fight Golovkin's punching power was at a mythical status, but now has to be looked at as more managable.  Other fighters in the division have to now be looking at him as a possible opponent.  One of the best fights that can be made would have to be between Golovin and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.  They have almost identical styles and Chavez Jr. has the best chin in boxing.  It would be a bloody slugfest and fans would love it.
