All Out Brawl

Roman "Rocky" Martinez vs. Miguel Beltran Jr.

As a boxing fan whenever you see a fighter from Mexico taking on a fighter from Puerto Rico you know it is must see tv, and this fight didn't dissapoint.  From start to finish it was a blood & guts brawl that would have made Arturo Gatti proud.  With both fighters refusing to give an inch the fight could have taken place in a phone booth, and it basically did.  The fight was for the vacant jr. lightweight title which had belonged to Adrien Broner before he was stripped of his belt for coming into his last fight overweight.  Both Martinez and Beltran seemed to grasp the enormity of the fight and both were hungry for the belt.  Although Martinez was the busier fighter it seemed as though Beltran was landing the harder shots.  In the 11th round referee Russel Mora deducted one point from Beltran for rabbit punching.  However upon further review of the replay it seemed as though Mora made a bad call on a punch that had no effect whatsoever.  Martinez ended up winning the fight via split decision, making that one point deduction all the more controversial.  Had that one point not been deducted the fight would have ended in a draw.  You can be sure that both fighters gained a bigger fan base after an all action fight like we saw Saturday.  A rematch would be a gift to boxing fans.
